Examples of medical transportations (evacuations) arranged by GVA

1. Patient, 30 y.o., female, Russian, on a business trip in the city of Zheleznogorsk, Russia. Diagnosis: closed right hip fracture.Surgery required. Medical transportation was performed from the hospital in Zheleznogorsk to the small airport (20 km by bad roads) which was the only place a helicopter could land safely. From the small airport, the patient was evacuated with a GVA doctor escort to the airport in Bratsk, Russia. From Bratsk, the patient was evacuated by the regularly scheduled flight on stretches with a GVA doctor escort to Moscow at Domodedovo airport where the patient was transported to the Central Clinical hospital in Moscow.

2. Patient, 45 y.o., male, British, diagnosis: malaria, severe intoxication, hepatic failure.
Medical transportation was done by ambulance from a clinic in Baku, Azerbaijan to the Baku, Gaidar Aliev airport. From the Baku airport, medical evacuation was by an air ambulance with an escort of ICU doctors team to Moscow, Vnukovo airport. The patient was then transferred by ambulance to an infectious disease hospital in Moscow to the department specialized in tropical diseases.

3. Patient, 28 y.o., male, Canadian. Diagnosis: Brain injury, subdural hematoma, hip fracture, multiple cut wounds.
Due to unknown circumstances, the patient had fallen under the metro train. The patient was transported via ambulance with a medical team escort from Skliphasovskogo hospital to Sheremetievo-2 airport, Moscow and then by a regularly scheduled flight with a GVA ICU doctor and nurse escort to the city of Toronto, Canada. From there he was transported by an ambulance (250 km) with the same medical team to the city of London, Ontaria, Canada.

4. Patient, 45 y.o., female, was on vacation in Maldives, was attacked by a hotel employee.
Diagnosis: Brain injury, multiple ribs’ fractures, hemopneumothorax. The patient was transported by an ambulance from a Maldives hospital to the airport in Male city, Maldives Islands and then medical repatriation back to Russia by regularly scheduled flight as a sitting passenger (with functioning chest drainage tube) accompanied by GVA ICU doctor to Moscow, Domodedovo airport. The patient was then transported by an ambulance from the airport to the hospital.

5. Patient, 29, male, Russian, a pilot of a major air company was on a business trip in South Africa, Johannesburg. Got in a car accident, lumbar spine fractures L3-L4, surgery was performed.
The patient was transported by an ambulance from a clinic in Johannesburg and then was medical repatriated by regularly scheduled flight on stretcher to Moscow, Sheremetievo-2 airport, then by an ambulance to Vnukovo airport. At that time due to the duration of the flight, the GVA medical team was changed. The patient was then transported by regular scheduled flight on a stretcher with a GVA doctor escort to the city of Tumen , Russia .

6. Patient, 56 y.o., female, Russian. Diagnosis: acute myocardial infarction.
The patient was transported by regular scheduled flight in the business class section from Sharm-El- Sheikh Egypt to Moscow with a CCU doctor (coronary care intensive doctor) escort. She was met at the Domodedovo airport, Moscow by a medical team and then transported by an ambulance to the hospital.

7. Patient, 70 y.o., male, German. Diagnosis: right-side pneumonia, cholelythiasis, diabetes mellitus, type II, chronic renal insufficiency. The patient was transported by an ambulance accompanied by a medical team from the hospital in Lvov city, Ukraine to the airport of Ivanofrankovsk city, Ukraine (over 200 km) for further medical repatriation by plane to Germany.
